Governor Says Yes. We Welcome New Secretary of Transportation With Request

Last week we reported to you about our letter (signed by additional members of the House) urging the Governor to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by the Presidential Executive Order on critical infrastructure including I-25.

It has happened.  This week Governor Hickenlooper's office sent a response promising to do exactly as requested.

On Tuesday, the Governor's office wrote, "after reviewing the federal Executive Order, today, the Governor directed the Colorado Department of Transportation to evaluate and submit critical Colorado Road and bridge projects to the White House Council on Environment Quality (CEQ) for consideration as federal "high priority project" designation status.  This directive shall include the Interstate 25 capacity expansion project from Monument to Castle Rock -- one of Colorado's most critical capacity projects and economic thoroughfares."

This is important.  It represents the Governor's willingness to press forward with this project.  The media has reported opporsistion to the simultaneous federally required studies and this accelerated opportunity by certain environmental groups.

Letter to Newly Confirmed US Secretary of Transportation

This week we welcomed Elaine Chao, as the new US Secretary of Transportation with a request for simplified regulatory burden for road construction and a request for expedited block grant funding for roads like I-25.  We are pressing forward at every level of government on this issue.
