Government vs. People
This past week we argued on the floor of the Colorado House that government damages society when it stops individuals from interacting and issues laws that create a compliance versus entitlement structure. House Bill 1002 requires businesses to provide a specified number of hours of leave time for employees to attend their children’s academic events.
To be clear we support parents’ active involvement in their children’s lives and education. You have heard me say many times, “It is the right and responsibility of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children.” But we don’t support government dictating business policies that interrupt the beneficial and necessary interaction between small business owners and their team members. Sign Language and Interpretation
We recently participated in a “Kitchen Talks” event hosted by the Colorado Association of the Deaf at The Independence Center in Colorado Springs. More than a hundred hearing impaired members of our community joined in a lively discussion about the need to expand the availability of high quality interpreters for the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing community.
Members of the Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center, the Department of Regulatory Agencies, and members of the Attorney General’s Office also attended and presented. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn directly from the people whose lives are affected by this issue.
Promoting Prosperity For All
It was a privilege to expand on our ongoing theme of Smaller Government Freer People when I spoke at American's For Prosperity 's Legislative Day at the Capitol, Thursday.
We are supportive of the 6 For '16 policy agenda AFP is promoting. You can read more about it here. We have common goals of keeping government small, protecting Colorado taxpayers from unnecessary burdens, and leveling the educational playing field.
It is an honor to represent you in the Colorado House. I am always grateful to hear your perspective on matters of policy and politics.
